Antibodies and Recombinant Proteins for Avian Research

With a wide range of immune system targets, including:
- Chicken CD markers
- Chicken immunoglobulins
- Recombinant chicken cytokines and antibodies
- Duck CD markers and immunoglobulins
AbD Serotec is a key supplier of reagents for veterinary research, providing antibodies against important physiological targets and disease causing pathogens. Included in our range are antibodies against immunoglobulins, inflammatory cytokines, and CD markers, for studying the immune response of chickens. In addition, we offer recombinant chicken cytokines and anti-duck antibodies targeting CD markers and immunoglobulins. To complete our avian range, antibodies are also available against chicken cytoskeletal proteins, transcription factors, and neuronal markers.
An important disease area for current research is the study of avian influenza, which can be investigated using our chicken and duck immune markers. Avian flu, or “bird flu”, was initially seen in wild birds, but has now become transmissible between species leading to serious outbreaks among domestic birds. The virus exists in several strains, with current research focused on the H5N1 subtype which mutates into a highly pathogenic version. Research into avian flu has accelerated since the highly pathogenic form of H5N1 has been transmitted from birds to humans. Although bird to human events are rare, the H5N1 strain has shown such rapid evolution that researchers fear it may eventually acquire the ability to spread between humans causing a deadly pandemic.
As an aid to studying avian flu, we also offer an ELISA sandwich pair, MCA2660 and MCA2661, which can be used for the capture and detection of H5N1 influenza virus.
