Infectious respiratory diseases are caused by both bacteria and viruses. Among the most common viruses causing respiratory infections are influenza virus, RSV, parainfluenza virus, and adenovirus. Young children, the elderly, and patients with compromised immune systems are at greatest risk for serious respiratory disease, leading to hospitalization and often death.
Viral causes of these infections need to be distinguished from bacterial causes to avoid the unnecessary use of antibiotics and to help select specific antiviral agents to treat or prevent infection.
There is an increasing need for new diagnostic tests, as individual tests or as respiratory panels,to detect the more common as well as the emerging viruses:
Influenza types A and B, Influenza A subtypes H1, H3, and H5
Parainfluenza types 1, 2, 3, and 4
RSV types A and B
We offer a wide choice of reliable and well-characterized respiratory disease antibodies, and both purified and recombinant protein antigens, to key respiratory disease associated microbes. All these antibodies are available in bulk quantities and because they are supported by unrivalled technical support and our ISO quality system, they are ideal for immunoassay development.
Influenza viruses are identified though the expression of hemagglutinin protein (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) protein antigens on the viral envelope, e.g. influenza A H1N1 strain. Diagnostic tests are especially important during ‘flu outbreaks to determine the presence and serotype of the influenza virus before deciding on the best patient care. Immunodiagnostic tests using antibodies that recognize conserved viral sequences, such as the nucleoprotein, ensure the virus is detected no matter which viral strain is endemic that season.
AbD Serotec offers well-characterized monoclonal antibodies recognizing the nucleoprotein of influenza types A and B.
