Antibodies to Adrenal Hormones

We offer a comprehensive range of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies to key adrenal hormones and hypertension related biomarkers, for research purposes as well as diagnostic assay development.

Cortisol is a steroid hormone (glucocorticoid, known formally as hydrocortisone) produced by the adrenal cortex. The cortisol level is regulated by adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) released by the pituitary gland. A blood sample test to measure cortisol level may show problems with the adrenal glands or pituitary gland. Cortisol plays important roles in numerous physiologic systems including blood sugar regulation, immune function, and bone metabolism.

Aldosterone is another steroid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex in the adrenal gland. It plays a central role in the regulation of blood pressure as it acts on the kidneys to take in more sodium while releasing excess potassium and increasing water retention, which in turn increases the blood pressure.

Angiotensin is a peptide hormone which plays an important role in the renin-angiotensin system. Angiotensin II is the major active form derived from its precursor angiotensin I, acting to stimulate the release of aldosterone from the adrenal cortex and ACTH from the pituitary gland, therefore
subsequently increasing the blood pressure.

Cross Reactivity Data for Anti-Cortisol

Amount of Cross Reactant Added Prednisone Prednisolone
36,040 ng/mL 0.05% 0.00%
3,604 ng/mL 0.40% 0.20%
360 ng/mL 0.80% 0.04%
36 ng/mL 1.60% 4%

Table 1:  Using Clinical and Laboratory standard guidelines (EP7 A2), antibody MCA5801G was tested for cross reactivity against the common reactants Prednisone and Prednisolone. The antibody was tested against varying concentrations of spiked cross reactant into a sample of known concentration.
